DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION AND ECO LEADERSHIP’S ROLE IN MODERATING THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN GREEN TRANSPORTATION AND COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE

Abstract

Companies that implement the green transportation concept will achieve a competitive advantage. The demands of adapting to technology within companies, along with their commitment to the environment and sustainability, will influence the achievement of a competitive advantage when implementing green transportation. This study aims to explore the relationship between green transportation and competitive advantage in stevedoring companies undergoing digital transformation and ecological leadership, reviewed from the perspective of company age and management positions. The research object used several stevedoring companies in three commercial ports in Jakarta. Data collection was conducted through the distribution of an online questionnaire and then analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics and multi-group analysis using the Generalized Structured Component Analysis (GSCA) tool. The results showed that the implementation of green transportation significantly influenced the achievement of competitive advantage, both in terms of company age and management positions. The digital transformation adopted by companies strengthened the commitment to implementing green transportation in achieving a competitive advantage. Furthermore, the factors of company age and management positions further strengthened the role of digitalization in moderating the influence of green transportation on competitive advantage. Likewise, the presence of an ecological leadership style strengthens the commitment to implementing green transportation, considering the age of the company. Conversely, the higher the manager's position, the weaker the role of ecological leadership in moderating the influence of green transportation on competitive advantage. The results of this study contribute to theoretical implications in the form of enriching empirical evidence for the concept of green transportation and the theory of competitive advantage based on the resource-based view (RBV). These results also provide practical implications for the maritime business world, where the implementation of green transportation can increase competitive advantage and will be strengthened by the role of digital transformation and the touch of company managers with an ecological leadership style.
